“A gift from the other side”

Screenshot_20180627-070849There is definitely, an indescribable love, when it comes to family. But no matter how near or far, that love and bond, will never be broken. The spirit of a passed loved one, lives within our hearts forever. And even in the next life, they are closer than you think. They are always trying to communicate with us as best they can.

A few months ago, I had a beautiful dream with my aunt, Fulvia. Fulvi was a very dedicated, and hard working attorney. Although, to some, she had  the appearance of a tough facade, she was extremely selfless and helped so many around her. She was extremely intelligent and new much about everything (and trust me, if she didn’t, she’d research the heck out of it).

On November 17, 2015, my loving aunt lost her life to a malignant brain tumor. None of us around her could understand how this could happen to such a wonderful person. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her family. Fulvia’s passing was felt by all. Her mark was left on all of those she came across, and her void, I can’t explain.

A few months ago, I had a dream where I found myself in the kitchen area, at my house. The kitchen had a large, panoramic window that would overlook the backyard. I could see that the yard was set up for some type of celebration; maybe a birthday or baptism. Finishing up the hors d’oeuvres, I decided to go outside and mingle. All the tables had beautiful linens and floral center pieces. All the way to the far left of the yard, was an empty table in which I took a seat. Just as I sat down, there was a young girl walking towards me with an antique, wooden box. She proceeded to tell me that the box was a gift from my aunt Fulvia. It was a beautiful, vintage, hand-carved jewelry box. Inside where four lockets of my aunt’s hair, from when she was younger. The lockets were very neatly placed and had a tight knot on one of the ends.

I was so filled with gratitude that I began to cry. The hairs still had her smell and I could feel her close to me. Suddenly, I hear a commotion among my family and friends that were present. They had all formed a circle and I was intrigued as to what was the matter. As I approached the circle, I see my aunt, Fulvia. We both walked up to eachother and began to hug. I didn’t want to let go of her. It felt so real!

She invited me to sit down. I couldn’t stop looking at her and felt so emotionally overwhelmed with joy. Fulvia began to tell me that she was back. I said, “What do you mean you’re back?” She said, “Yes, (hitting her forearm with the tips of her fingers) I’m alive and I’m back again!” I didn’t understand. I said, “But, how can this be? You can stay with us or with your daughter, whom just bought a house. Don’t worry about money because we will help you.” With a smirk on her face, Fulvia began to say, “I don’t need any money. I have my own money. Before I passed away, there were many that owed me money for my services, and now I will call them to collect it.” I began to tell her how that wouldn’t be necessary, but she stood up and walked away to start making her phone calls. After that, the dream ended. I was left with so much nostalgia. I was sad, yet happy. She seemed to be filled with life, she was happy, and still very determined.

Lockets of hair symbolize the connection one has with a passed loved one that can never be broken. In Victorian times, it was common for bereaved family members to keep locks of hair from deceased children or family members. These locks of hair were seen as mementos and served to comfort the surviving loved ones.

Love and comfort from our loved ones can come in various ways. Maybe it’s a whisper in the breeze, a song on the radio, a feather at your feet, or even an old wooden box with lockets of hair. Either way, it is there way to show us they are with us, love us, and still want a relationship with us, even after they have crossed.
